In the land where the wild Spanish mustangs still roam freely, there is no shortage of activities, sights and attractions for the whole family. Set against the backdrop of the Sound and Sea, the northern beaches offer everything under the sun! The adventuresome at heart can choose from surfing the great breaks found all along the coast, kite-boarding in the Sound, hang-gliding off Jockey’s Ridge, jet-skiing, sailing or follow a rugged sand trail on a 4-wheel drive ATV adventure tour.
For those who are drawn to history of the island, Corolla is a place where the past has been tastefully preserved and restored. The Currituck Heritage Site which is home to the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and historic Whalehead Club are open to the public seasonally and allow visitors for tours. The newest attraction is the Wildlife Education Center which is expected to open late summer of 2005. The grounds at the Currituck Heritage Site are a perfect place to enjoy an afternoon picnic or set sail from the public boat launch.
Surrounded by water on all sides the Outer Banks
is a water-lovers paradise! The Sound and surrounding marshes are an
idyllic setting for a kayak eco-tour where you can observe ospreys, herons
and a wide variety of native plants and animals. The sound is also an
excellent place to learn how to windsurf, parasail or sail at any of
the local watersport centers. The Outer Bank’s proximity to the
Gulf Stream also makes it a destination for sport fisherman.
For some it is all about the miles pristine beaches which have drawn visitors for years. Boasting some of the country’s most beautiful shoreline, the beaches on the Outer Banks are its main attraction. Beach lovers can spend lazy days soaking up the Carolina sunshine, riding the waves or playing in the gentle surf. Travelers come from far and near to enjoy this natural attraction and we hope that you too will join us soon!
